A Christian community-development ministry serving Detroit’s 48205
the 9th Precinct, since 2016.
Our Story
Camp Restore Detroit began in 2016 as a partner of Camp Restore New Orleans, which has served families since Hurricane Katrina in 2005. We are based in Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, off Chalmers and Seymour, in the heart of Detroit’s 9th Precinct.
Our goal is simple and lasting: to partner with our neighbors to restore our community — clearing blight, repairing homes, supporting children and youth, and building real relationships along the way.
Mission & Approach
We follow an asset-based community development model. That means we don’t arrive with a list of what we think the neighborhood needs. Instead, we start by asking what is already good here — the leaders, the block clubs, the gifts already at work — and we partner to build on it.
It’s a slower way to work, and a deeper one. It’s also why the restoration lasts.
Three ways we partner with neighbors to rebuild the 48205.
Working with block clubs to clear empty lots and overgrown sidewalks — making the neighborhood cleaner, safer, and more beautiful.
Neighbors can apply for help with improvements like painting and basic repairs. We provide volunteer hands (not funds or materials) to get the work done.
We host events and classes for the neighborhood — planned and led by community members themselves.
